2 On Nakatajima beach in Hamamatsu. In May. It started in the 16th century when a nobleman wanted to celebrate his son's birth, so he flew a kite decorated with the name of the newborn son. They wear a happi. They eat eels and rice cakes. They play traditional Japanese music on flutes, drums and stringed instruments called shamizens.
